Millets Benefit In PCOS/PCOD

Millets are ancient superfood with immense benefits. They are fiber rich containing both soluble and insoluble fibers. Being high in fibers they keeps us full for longer period of time so help in good digestion.
Millets are rich in antioxidants, protein, iron, calcium etc. They also provide amino acids and also contain niacin which helps in healthy skin and organ functions.
Millets are versatile food and gaining popularity recently. The Prime Minister of India has proposed to united nation for declaring year 2023 as International year of millets(IYoM). This step will be very helpful for millet revolution. They are very beneficial for preventing risk of many diseases like diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, Hypertension and other.
But millets are also proven to be beneficial for PCOD/PCOS.
PCOD/PCOS are known as polycystic ovarian disease or syndrome. It causes enlarged ovaries with presence of multiple cyst on outer surface. These conditions occur due to hormonal imbalance and leads to irregular or prolonged periods, weight gain, acne, facial hair, male Pattern baldness and in severe case causes infertility.
Ragi, jowar, bajra are known to be very beneficial for PCOD/PCOS. They help in hormonal balance making them super food to include in your diet.

How millets help in PCOD/PCOS?

🔹️In weight loss- Millets are high in complex carbohydrate and fibres helping us feel full for longer period of time. It is low in calories. These reasons make millets good for weight loss. Reduction in weight is seen to be linked with reduction in PCOD/PCOS symptoms.

🔹️Insulin resistance- Insulin resistance is one of the major signs of having PCOS. Millets being high in complex carbohydrate gets slowly digested and prevents the raise in blood sugar level. So, prevents insulin resistance and help in PCOS. Millets also have low glycemic index which also helps control Insulin resistance.

🔹️One of the major symptoms of PCOD/PCOS is prolonged periods which leads to blood loss and anemia. Millets being rich in iron, zinc, magnesium and calcium is found to be beneficial.

🔹️Millets are also seen to be beneficial for PCOS symptoms Iike acne.

🔹️Internal inflammation is a symptoms of PCOS. Millets are rich in antioxidants so helps to fight oxidative stress caused by free radicals which helps in reducing the internal inflammation.
